Windworks Charter Policies

Our policies are designed to create a safe charter experience. Learning what’s allowed can help you avoid unintentionally breaking the rules and helps everyone enjoy a safe, reliable, and fun sailing experience.

Single Handing Windworks does not allow single-handed sailing. All charters must have at least one qualified skipper and an additional passenger who is – at a minimum- capable of using a cell phone or VHF radio. Windworks does not allow single-handed sailing. Types of charter available WEEKDAY Normally 9 AM to 1 hour before sunset. Start times can be before 9 AM if: (1) member has been previously checked out on the vessel, and (2) member makes prior arrangements to board early at least 2 business day prior to sail. WEEKDAY 9 AM to 1 hour before sunset. See charter contract for late arrival penalties and other terms of charter.
WEEKDAY 1/2 DAY From 9 AM to 1 PM, or from 2 PM to 1 hour before sunset. 1/2 Day sails are not available during off-season or during day light savings months November-March. 1/2 DAY WEEKDAY N/A
3 DAY Any three consecutive days. Each day is a twenty four hour period starting from 9am departure. Charterer is responsible for bedding and charts outside one day cruising area. Trips are subject to member qualifications. Must return 1 hour before sunset to dock or at anchor each night during multi day charters. Last day return to WWSC dock must return 1 hours before sunset. During prime season, a 3-day charter is considered any three consecutive weekdays (M-F). N/A
WEEK Any consecutive seven day period. Departure and return times are at 9am. Each day is a twenty four hour period, counted from 9am of the departure day. Additional days may be added to the trip at the prorated weekly per day rate. Charterer is responsible for bedding and charts outside one day cruising area. Trips are subject to member qualifications. Week long charter rates are posted on the website. Weeklong charters that cover a national holiday (3 day weekend), are considered a 'weekend' rate for the holiday. Multiple Days Non-members may charter multiple days with Bareboat Certification. Charter departure (start of check - in) and return times are 9am. A day is counted as a 24 hour period, starting from 9am start time. Depending on availability, may be booked two weeks in advance. Charterer is responsible for bedding and charts outside one day cruising area. Call for details.Must return 1 hour before sunset to dock or at anchor each night during multi day charters. Last day return to WWSC dock must return 1 hours before sunset.
WEEKEND DAY Same as WEEKDAY hours. WEEKEND DAY Same hours as WEEKDAY. See non-member "standby" policy below.
1/2 WEEKEND DAY Same hours as described under WEEKDAY 1/2 DAY above. May not be booked in advance, same day reservations may be made. 1/2 day weekend sails may be booked in advance during the discount season. During Prime Season, 1/2 day sails are not available on Saturday, Sunday and holidays. 1/2 WEEKEND DAY N/A

Reservations Up to 2 advance bookings can be carried on reservation calendar. Standby basis as described below for each type of charter.
Members may book most types of sails up to four months in advance. The only restrictions are 1/2 DAY sails on the WEEKEND during the PRIME season. These can be booked the day of the sail only. Free Spirit and Days Off qualify as discount boats and no refunds are available for their charters unless the issue makes the boat no longer seaworthy. Note: During the PRIME season members have priority booking on all vessels until noon on Fridays for weekend day bookings. Members should plan as far ahead as possible for all bookings in the PRIME season, and should be aware that after noon on Fridays the public non-member waiting list opens for bookings. Non-members may call ahead for desired sailing dates. During PRIME season, names are placed on a standby list in the order of names received. On the vessel release day, charterers are contacted with vessel options. During Discount season, the policies outlined below are relaxed and, depending on demand, arrangements may be made for most types of bookings well in advance. PRIME SEASON: Weekend Day Charters Vessel selection and charter confirmation made at noon the day before the desired weekend day charter. Weekday Charters vessel selection and charter confirmation made at noon the day before the desired weekend day charter. 4 Day charters. Vessel selection and confirmation made one calendar week prior to charter date (as projected availability permits). Free Spirit and Days Off qualify as discount boats and no refunds are available for their charters unless the issue makes the boat no longer seaworthy.
Reservation deposit No reservation deposit required for Shilshole charters; see membership agreement. Deposit of 30% required for Anacortes reservations. For cancellation policy, see membership agreement. Required 100% of the total cost of the charter, due at time of confirmation of the charter.
Cancellation Policy

Vessels departing from Seattle

We don’t require a deposit to reserve a charter out of our Seattle location. 7 days prior to your charter the remaining balance is due and our system will automatically bill your credit card. If you cancel less than 7 days prior to your charter we will retain the full balance unless we are able to rebook your charter dates. If we are able to rebook your charter dates, we will refund whatever part we are able to rebook less a $100 rebooking fee.

Cancellations of reservations on holiday weekends require 30 day prior notice.

Vessels departing from Anacortes

To reserve a charter out of our Anacortes location, we require a 15% deposit at the time the reservation is made. If you need to cancel your charter and it is more than 60 days before your charter starts, we will refund your deposit less a $100 cancellation fee. 60 days prior to your charter the remaining balance is due and our system will automatically bill your credit card. If you cancel less than 60 days prior to your charter we will retain the full balance unless we are able to rebook your charter dates. If we are able to rebook your charter dates, we will refund whatever part we are able to rebook less a $100 rebooking fee.

CANCELLATIONS by CHARTERER: A cancellation received before seven calendar days, of the charter requires a cancellation payment of 100% of the total charter fee. CANCELLATIONS by WWSC: Beyond the charter elected cancellation policies noted above , WWSC may cancel any charter at time of scheduled outing for any reason it deems necessary for the safety of the charter guests. In case of a WWSC determination to cancel, the charterer will receive a full refund of deposit fees made.
Security deposit None required. See membership contract for details on member responsibility for the vessel insurance deductible. Required May be by credit card or check and is due before departure. Returned or destroyed upon successful check-in by Windworks staff at end of trip. Amount ranges from $750 to $5000, depending on vessel.
Pricing Disclaimer We do everything we can to ensure that the prices on our website, email marketing, and other media are correct, and we try to keep our prices constant. Sometimes we need to change the cost of a service, either up or down. Prices may be changed at any time without further notice. We reserve the right to cancel services and change our prices at any time without further notice.
Check-outs Vessel check-out required for first time vessel use. Check out fee is $78 for members. Checkout lengths will have a minimum of 1 hour but may go longer. Check-outs must be arranged for times prior to day of sail. Check-outs are an assessment of a skipper's skills and do not guarantee approval for charter. Vessel manual and skipper’s log (checklist) must be completed for each trip. It is member's responsibility to bring any discrepancies to Windworks staff attention prior to leaving the dock, and to inspect and approve all safety gear, lifejackets, vessel systems, holding tank compliance, radio and instruments prior to departure.PAPERWORK: Signed membership contract and membership application must be on file. Vessel check out with Windworks personnel required for every vessel usage. Check out fee is $120, and may require an on-the-water skills demonstration by charterer. Checkout lengths will have a minimum of 1 hour but may go longer. Check out times must be arranged prior to start of reservation. Check-outs are an assessment of a skipper's skills, and do not guarantee approval for charter. It is charterer's responsibility to bring any discrepancies to Windworks attention prior to leaving the dock, and to inspect and approve all safety gear, lifejackets, vessel systems, holding tank compliance, radio and instruments prior to departure.   • Charterer responsible for refueling powerboat and Catamaran at end of reservation or subject to cost of fuel plus a $150 fuel charge.
  • $10.00 per day flat charge for all Capri 22s
  • $15 per day for all cruisers
  • $20 per day for Blue Duet, Le Reve & Scirocco, except trips of 3 days or more for which vessel is filled by Windworks at the start of trip and returned full by charterer.
  • Charterer responsible for refueling powerboat and Catamaran at end of reservation or subject to cost of fuel plus a $150 fuel charge.
Check-ins Complete vessel check-in log. Empty holding tank at pump out station. Secure vessel, inventory gear, clean interior and head, wash and brush vessel exterior and deck. Secure battery switch/electrical system. Plug in vessel shore power. Note in log and report to Windworks any vessel problems, whether caused by member or not. Return keys and skippers log to Windworks office If vessel not left in required condition at check-in, the following fees will apply: Vessel not cleaned per check list ($75) Vessel holding tank not pumped out ($100) Vessel head clogged ($150) Vessel not returned to dock or anchored 1 hour before sunset subject to $100 fee. Vessel not returned refueled (if less than 3 day reservation) subject to cost of fuel plus a $150 fuel charge. Vessel must be returned properly cleaned and ready for inspection at prescribed times. Complete the vessel check-in log in vessel manual. Empty holding tank at pump out station. Secure vessel, inventory gear, clean interior and head, wash and brush vessel exterior and deck. Secure battery switch/ electrical system. Plug in vessel shore power. Note in log and report to Windworks any vessel problems, whether caused by charterer or not. If vessel not left in required condition at check-in, the following fees will apply: Vessel not cleaned per check list ( $75) Vessel holding tank not pumped out ($100) Vessel head clogged ($150) Vessel not returned to dock or anchored 1 hour before sunset subject to $100 fee. Vessel not returned refueled (if less than 3 day reservation) subject the cost of fuel plus a $150 fuel charge.
Windshare Crew list required before departure of a scheduled Windshare. All members split cost evenly. Skipper who made reservation is solely responsible for any damage to vessel. N/A.
Coastguard Compliance
  • Windworks requires all "souls" on-board to have a lifejacket. Can provide PFD's and foul-weather gear if needed.
  • Each vessel has a maximum number of "souls" allowed per the US Coastguard's regulations. Please plan ahead when arranging crew and guests. Number of "souls" on-board exceeding the US Coastguard's regulation will result in cancellation of charter reservation by WWSC without refund.
  • Windworks requires all "souls" on-board to have a lifejacket. Can provide PFD's and foul-weather gear if needed.
